8 Years 8 Songs

Musician and activist Phil Monsour and others, will perform 8 Songs for 8 Years at the Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation (BITA) to mark eight years in detention for hundreds of refugees imprisoned by the Australian government.

For many of those in BITA, the 19th of July 2021 marks the end of their eighth year and the beginning of their ninth year in detention. In a show of solidarity, Phil Monsour and others will perform before the Rally at BITA: 8 Years No Freedom


Come support the refugees and demand an end to their indefinite detention.


When: 11:30 am, Sunday 18 July 2021.


Where: Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation (BITA) at 100 Sugar Mill Road, Pinkenba.

Go to the slip road, about fifty metres to the right of the front gate. This is public land.

This event will take place on Turrbal country, a land that the Turrbal people have never ceded to the colonial government. The Turrbal people, neighbouring Yuggera people, and all Aboriginal peoples have been resisting colonialism since 1788.
